Puerto Vallarta Puerto Vallarta is situated on the Bahia de Banderas (Bay of Flags), Mexico's largest natural bay, and the city has come a long way from its humble fishing-village origins. As most know, it became known in the early 1960's from the filming of John Huston's "Night of the Iguana" with Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in nearby Mismaloya, and rapidly grew up into an international tourist destination. While there are numerous large resorts scattered around the Bay, especially along the north shore in what is known as the Riviera Nayarit, it is still easily possible to visit some of the traditional fishing villages, some accessible only by boat, to get a sense of the historic past.
Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR) has direct flights to numerous cities in the U.S. and Canada. AREAS (North to South): RIVIERA NAYARIT: NUEVO VALLARTA: AIRPORT/MARINA: DOWNTOWN: ZONA ROMANTICA: CONCHAS CHINAS: SOUTH/MISMALOYA:
